The trip
Being jammed in a plane for 14 hours isn't a great deal of fun...especially
in the last row, right at the back of the plane. Many attempts were
made to sleep, with most ending up being futile. There isn't a great
view of the movie from the back seat and a laptop battery only lasts
so long, so it was a loooong trip. Getting through immigration and
then customs was no walk in the park either, but we made the connecting
flight to Phoenix from San Francisco and made it safely here.
The arrival
Who turned the oven on ? Walking into the tunnel when the plane
landed in Phoenix was like steeping into a pre-heated oven. The
outside temperature was over 100°F (around 38°C) but you
could probably add a few to that in the tunnel.
The trip from the airport to the hotel was an adventure in itself.
We boldly decided to hire a car and follow the directions provided
by maps.yahoo.com, and once
we got our bearings, set off. We managed to stay on the right
side of the road, which is a fair effort when turning corners,
and didn't cause any carnage. However, problems occurred when
we found the freeway...OUR freeway, that NEEDED to be open ;-)...had
been closed for construction. After a moment of panic, we were
soon on the right path again when we followed some very helpful
detour signs and reached our destination.
The hotel is amazingly HUGE and the walk from reception to our
room could almost be classified as another leg in our journey.
The rooms are fantastic and the facilities at the hotel are outstanding.
